Seems there is a 5th mystery character in Sonic Rivals. Oh, how the anxiety builds up when we hear of mystery characters. We'd love for the creators to just blurt out who they really are, right? Well, maybe not! It's also fun and exciting when you finally find out who they are.
Well now, a photo taken at the Penny Arcade Expo displays the Sonic Rivals character select screen. On that screen, you can see there is a box with a question mark that has the mystery character waiting to be unlocked.
Backbone Entertainment, the developer of the PSP title Sonic Rivals was present at the Penny Arcade Expo. However, they did not reveal who that mystery character was.
Guess we'll just have to wait and see, huh?

Yet another rumour about our favorite blue blur character has hit the net!

"Nintendo hopes that Snake's appearance in Super Smash Bros. Brawl will encourage other publishers to allow their characters to join the Smash Bros. line-up, and is already actively negotiating for the rights to include at least one other non-Nintendo character. Both Sakurai and Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto have stated that Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog is the character that Smash Bros. fans have requested the most and... well, it's hard to type these words with our fingers crossed!"
I, for one, hope this rumor is true. I love Sonic and I am quite addicted to Super Smash Bros. I know Sonic would be a great addition to Super Smash Bros. Brawl!

Reporter Jim Cordeira of Gaming-Age.com reports that Sonic for Wii has gotten an official title...and it's not "Sonic Wild Fire".
Here's what he had to say:
" We just received word that the upcoming and anticipated Sonic the Hedgehog title for the Wii finally has an official title.
Drumroll please... "Sonic Wild Fire" is now officially known as "Sonic and the Secret Rings". The new title is perhaps a little overly descriptive, but it's not bad. Sega is playing up the Arabian Nights theme with the game, so the new title seems in line with that.
Sonic and the Secret Rings is due out in early 2007. Make sure to check back soon for more information and media."

WHAT? What is wrong with "Sonic Wild Fire"? The name has grown on me!! When you hear "Sonic and the Secret Rings", it's like...eh nice name. But when we all heard the name "Sonic Wild Fire"...it was like Alright!!!

I'd also like to see the reason for renaming this title. "Sonic Wild Fire" seems to fit better, in my opinion. "Sonic and the Secret Rings" just seems like a kiddie title and maybe that's what they are aiming for.
Well, whatever fits the game best is what the title will be, I guess. I still like "Sonic Wildfire", but maybe "Sonic and the Secret Rings" would grow on me as well. Who Knows!!

Voting has opened for the Golden Joystick Awards 2006 and it's time to cast YOUR votes. TheSun.co.uk and Golden Joystick have teamed up to create their very own gong - The Sun’s Family Game of the Year Award.
And guess who is nominated? Nope, not Sonic the Hedgehog! His buddy, Shadow the Hedgehog steals the spotlight. Sonic should not be too sad, though, as he won an award back in 2004 for The Sun's Ultimate Gaming Icon.
So, now it's Shadow's turn to win an award!!

Richard Jacques is a composer for video games, but he's also much more than that. He's a legend. A damn nice chap. A true British gent. Etc. Sonic fans will know him as the composer for the music to Sonic 3D and Sonic R. The Summer of Sonic interviewed him a while back (the transcript of which will appear online this week) and he kindly signed a Japanese copy of Sonic R for the SEGA Saturn for us to give away! Not only is a Japanese copy of Sonic R pretty rare in the first place, the fact that you can own a copy that has been touched by the awesome composer is enough to get anyone going. And it can be yours.

Sonic 2006: Possible 4th Hedgehog

Today, a few new screenshots of the Xbox 360 and PS3 game, Sonic the Hedgehog have surfaced on the internet. These images seem to reveal a 4th mysterious indigo coloured hedgehog character. Now, I say "seem" because, honestly, noone truely knows if it's a 4th new charcter or not at this time. I mean, Sonic, Shadow and Silver have been confirmed. So, why would'nt this one? Who knows! Anyways, here are some pics so you can judge for yourself...
And, really, this could actually be the 5th hedgehog, depending on if Amy Rose definately makes her appearance or not. So many darn speculations going around...
Some also speculate that it's name will be Sapphire(if it is a new character) because he is blue and is Crystalline in appearance. But that is pure speculation!! I'm not sure of the name or if it's even a new charcter, but one thing I can say...these screenshots are making me more eager to play the game already!!

Sonic 2006: Amy Rose Possible Appearance

The Summer of Sonic website, a fan-project led by The Sonic Stadium, has gained information that seems to confirm that Amy Rose is set to make an appearance in Sonic the Hedgehog for PS3 and XBOX 360.
In responding to a small set of Q&A questions exclusively for the Summer of Sonic website, arranged by SEGA Europe and TSS, producer Masahiro Kumono (also the new Head of Sonic Team since Yuji Naka's departure) and director Shun Nakamura briefly stated their feelings for the Sonic franchise and where they see it heading after 15 years of popularity.
When asked what Sonic character was their favorite, Kumono-san stated that Amy was a preference, saying that "I like Amy, who appears as an amigo [friend/support] character in this title [Sonic 2006]. She has that same active personality, which build up the story as well as the game."
Not sure if he's actually referring to Sonic 2006, but we'll see. Amy fans, keep your fingers crossed!
