Sonic the Hedgehog will turn 16 years old on June 23, 2007! When Sonic turned 15 in 2006, it was quite the celebration...

Let's see, there was the exclusive PSP debut of Sonic Rivals, SEGA had announced the release of a special edition of Sonic The Hedgehog Genesis for the Gameboy Advance, a new Sonic Adventure for Wii and Sonic The Hedgehog on PS3, Xbox 360 & PC, and the fun at Summerofsonic.com!

Plus there was the comics, “No Thanks for the Memories Part 1 of 2” & "No Thanks for the Memories Part 2 of 2" to celebrate Sonic's 15th anniversary. And Japan celebrated by releasing a bunch of limited edition Sonic merchandise for sale.

One thing to check out for Sonic's 16th anniversary...Sonic and Phantasy Star Universe fans can celebrate with SEGA and the Phantasy Star Game Masters!

The GUARDIANS Colony will be decorating their halls with statues of Sonic and his closest friends, and the entire Gurhal System will be there! SEGA has announced that Sonic Rivals 2 is currently in development for PSP.

Sonic Rivals 2, will speed onto shelves in Autumn 2007. The sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog's fast and furious 3D action platformer, has several new features to enhance the player's experience. A revamped rival "jostling" gameplay system allows for closer head-to-head competition, upgraded power-ups and range weapons.

There's also the new Battle mode that lets two players to jump into six different multiplayer challenges by sharing just one disc via the PSP system's Wi-Fi function.

Plus, new characters introduced include Miles "Tails" Prower and there's a new single-player mode called Free Play that "will allow players to enjoy each level at their own pace. Each character in the game will also have their own unique signature moves that fit their varied personalities", Sega explains.

Thursday announced a partnership to create a new video game based on the classic SEGA legenadary icon, Sonic The Hedgehog. The exact name of the game is undetermined, but this new title developed exclusively for the Nintendo DS will ship in 2008.

"BioWare is one of the hottest names in RPG development in the world," said Simon Jeffery, President and COO, SEGA of America, Inc. "Everyone at SEGA has huge confidence that Sonic is in the safest of hands, and that BioWare can create the ultimate handheld RPG experience for gamers of all ages."

BioWare is the award-winning independent developer that has created some of the world's best-selling titles including the Baldur's Gate™ and Neverwinter Nights™ series, the 2003 Game of the Year, Star Wars®: Knights of the Old Republic™ and the 2005 RPG of the Year, Jade Empire.™ BioWare is currently developing one of the most anticipated next-generation titles of 2007, Mass Effect.™

Sonic the Hedgehog truely is a legendary video game icon. He smashed his way onto the gaming scene back in 1991 when SEGA first brought you the super fast, blue blur character.

Known for his rebellious attitude and signature speed, Sonic has made a name for himself in the gaming world and has no plans of fading away anytime soon.

Not only can you find Sonic games on the original SEGA console, you can find Sonic games on next generation consoles including the Wii, PS3, PSP and Xbox 360.

Sonic and the Secret Rings was released for the Wii console on February 20, 2007. Sonic brought his trademark speed and rebellious attitude to the Wii in his first solo adventure since he was first introduced, back in 1991. The gameplay is simple, but challenging and sonic soars through the game at top speeds!

Sonic the Hedgehog is the title for the Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles. This video game was created in order to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. It was released November 14, 2006 for the Xbox 360 and January 30, 2007 for the Xbox 360.

Sonic Rivals was released November 24, 2006 for the PSP handheld console. Custom built for the Playstation Portable, Sonic Rivals is a unique head-to-head racing experience!

While these newer games are all the rage, you can also find great sonic games on other consoles as well, including the PS2, Gamecube, Xbox, Gameboy Advance and Nintendo DS. The SEGA mascot brings fun and excitement to all the video games and drags some friends along for the fun. Some friends included are Miles Tails Prower, Amy Rose Hedgehog, Shadow the Hedgehog, Knuckles Echidna and Cream the Rabbit. And, of course, Sonic's arch enemy, Dr. Eggman, shoves his way into games as well.

Oh, but wait! The fun does'nt stop there. Die hard Sonic the Hedgehog fans have created fun and exciting Sonic Flash Games for gamers to play online. They are browser based games that are creative, fun and addicting. Yes, you may find yourself playing these games for hours on end! One of my favorite Sonic Online Games is Ultimate Flash Sonic. It's an amazing remake of the classic SEGA Genesis game, Sonic the Hedgehog.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has become available on the Wii Shop Channel.

Sonic 2, from the MegaDrive, is the second entry in the action platform series. The game introduces Miles Prower, a.k.a. Tails in a new adventure to thrwart the evil Dr. Robotnik. It retails for 800 Wii Points.

Description for Sonic 2, provided by Nintendo of America, are as follows:

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Sega Genesis, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 800 Wii Points): Dr. Eggman (aka Dr. Robotnik) is back to continue his zealous search for the Chaos Emeralds needed to fuel his new Death Egg contraption. The evil doctor secretly follows Sonic to his vacation spot, Westside Island, and launches a full-scale attack, imprisoning all the helpless animals of the island and turning them into mindless worker drones. Circuit City is giving folks a free game for every PSP or Nintendo DS purchased.

Circuit City is currently offering PSPs for $169.99 while the DS Lites are at $129.99. Purchasing either of the two and you can earn yourself a free game worth $19.99 or less.

There are plenty of titles worth trying out with a low price tag. For the PSP, there's Midnight Club 3, Fight Night Round 3 and GTA: Liberty City Stories.

A bunch of titles for the DS can be yours for free too, like Guilty Gear Dust Strikers, Cooking Mama, Sonic Rush, and Big Brain Academy. A couple of these have been on sale, but still, the best things in life are free.
