SEGA UNVEILS SONIC RIVALS DASHING ONTO THE PSP™ SYSTEM

Original Sonic Game Offers Lively Head-to-Head Competition

SAN FRANCISCO & LONDON (May 3, 2006) -- SEGA® of America, Inc. and SEGA® Europe Ltd. today announced the development of Sonic Rivals exclusively for the PSP™ (PlayStation®Portable) system. Sonic Rivals is a head-to-head competition between Sonic and his top rivals, where the gloves are off and winner takes all! Built from the ground-up, the engine allows gamers to rip through tracks in some high-spirited single player and wireless multiplayer action against friends as Sonic returns in a whole new racing-platformer with classic 2D gameplay in true 3D environments for gamers on the go.

What starts as a friendly competition between Sonic and Knuckles quickly intensifies as Shadow and other rivals jump into the action. Sonic Rivals allows gamers to utilize boost moves and power-ups to trip, shove, and vault over each other while hurtling towards the finish line at breakneck speeds. Players will negotiate wildly twisting 3D tracks while avoiding the insidious Dr. Eggman and his myriad of hazardous traps and contraptions.

"Sonic Rivals brings back the classic 2D platform gameplay that started it all, and douses it with vibrant three-dimensional environments," said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of Marketing, SEGA of America, Inc. "In this heated rivalry, gamers are tested to prove not only who's the fastest but who has the best head-to-head gameplay strategy."

In Sonic Rivals, gamers can play as one of four different characters from the Sonic Universe, each with separate fast and winding storylines. In addition, the extensive rewards system, which is based on collecting trading cards, allows players to customize their favorite characters. Connect via wireless to race against a friend, and put trading cards on the line for even more multiplayer challenges.

Debuting on the SEGA Genesis in 1991, Sonic The Hedgehog is one of the world's best-selling and most recognizable video game franchises and character. More than 44 million units later, the beloved blue hedgehog celebrates his 15th anniversary this year.

Sonic Rivals is slated for release in Fall 2006 and developed by the Vancouver-based studio of Backbone Entertainment, a division of Foundation 9 Entertainment. Silver the Hedgehog
Sunday, June 25, 2006
We all love that blue blur SEGA mascot, Sonic the Hedgehog. However, were you aware of the new mysterious character to present himself?? Yes, Sonic encounters a mysterious character named Silver. Blocking him with unique supernatural powers, even the Blue dude with 'tude will find it difficult to out-maneuver the enigmatic Silver! As Sonic speeds through the huge kingdom, the mysteries unravel.

Silver is a time-traveling Hedgehog who has returned to the past in order to stop Sonic from causing a global cataclysm known as the "Iblis Trigger". Silver has psychokinetic powers that allow him to pick up objects around the playing field and throw them at enemies, including projectiles like missiles and gigantic nearby items like wrecked cars and gigantic crates, all with his mind. This ability is useful for stopping bullets launched at Silver by his enemies, Matrix-style.

He also possesses the ability to levitate in the air for extended periods of time (using up his energy bar)making otherwise hard-to-reach platforms readily accessible. As long as he can keep his energy built up, he’ll keep things flying around the world. In fact, speaking of flying, his psychokinetic skills also seem to enable him to take flight for periods of time.

Silver also gains more abilities the more rings he collects. He can use his abilities to block and deflect oncoming attacks. This technique appears to drain his "energy" bar, as does his other psychic abilities. He can manipulate the environment too, thus expanding the playing areas. This can be activated by clicking on the green context sensitive pad. For example, while standing on the steel beam, he could bend it mentally and let it go, much like a springboard and then launch Silver across the level.

When Silver goes into psycho mode, buildings also bend and shatter with ease, cars fly and enemies can be ripped off their feet and thrown away like tiny insects before the mighty power of Silver. Silver can also pull enemy robots towards him, then throw them back at their mates, smashing them all in one blow.

Silver's levels, like the Chaos City one in the demo, are busier, urban, human worlds full of things for him to break, bend and throw. His stage takes place in what appears to be the aftermath of a large-scale war. Wrecked and abandoned cars litter the streets; the sky looks like something straight out of Oblivion, and it includes a number of buildings that have seen better days. His level is much more slow-paced than Sonic's, with a greater emphasis on platforming and puzzle-solving.

A new rival of Sonic's, Silver the Hedgehog has been confirmed to be playable in Sonic Rivals as well as the 15th anniversary version of Sonic the Hedgehog.

Sonic 2: Mobile Phone Gaming
Thursday, June 22, 2006
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is set to arrive on the Japanese Panasonic P902iS mobile phone. SEGA’s Sonic Channel Sonic 2 mobile page states that all 11 levels will be available on release, however it is still undecided as to whether the game should be split in two as with the first installment.

Sonic 2 will include the entire Genesis game, but with some slight edits for the smallest screen, such as an adjustment of the view of the playing field since few cell phones -- including the P902iS have the same screen ratio as tradition tube TVs. Even the between-zone mini-game where Sonic and Tails shoot the tubes is present. This is where you could pick some some major score bonuses.

Check out this first batch of screenshots to get a sneak peek at Sonic's next cell phone adventure (in Japan, at least).

Screenshots:

There are no current plans for the mobile game to arrive in America any time soon. How lucky for Japan!

Sonic the Hedgehog (2006 game)
Monday, June 19, 2006
Sonic the Hedgehog (also called Sonic Next-Gen or Sonic 360 to differentiate it from similarly-titled games) is the name of the next-generation video game featuring Sonic to be released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 sometime in 2006. It is being developed at Sonic Team, directed by Shun Nakamura.

It was revealed during a press release on September 9, 2005; Yuji Naka hinted that this game will be a recreation or a retelling of the original Sega Genesis game Sonic the Hedgehog, using speeds "only capable on next gen systems", though his comments could equally refer to the design-process and not the storyline itself (which is radically different) returning to its roots. Its release will mark the 15th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog, just as Sonic Adventure 2 marked the 10th. SEGA has said the release date for the game will be the same day the PS3 comes onto the market. This would set the U.S. release date at November 17, 2006.

Among the new innovations revealed are the incorporation of passing time, including the realistic movement of the sun, as well as highly detailed characters and landscapes (in one demo, a tree was shown in-game with mushrooms growing on it). Yuji Naka has stated that the general theme of the game will be "What if Sonic were real?".

However, Naka had recently departed from Sonic Team and Sega on May 8, 2006 to form his own studio, PROPE. It is unknown about how this Sonic game will progress without his supervision and whether Nakamura will carry on designing the game himself.

Characters

Playable

A recent trailer revealed that it is possible to play as several other characters on top of Sonic. The known cast is:

* Sonic the Hedgehog - The Hero of the Story, who, after befriending her, takes it upon himself to rescue Princess Elise. High speed, Sonic Adventure-style gameplay. Sonic also gets faster in speed the more rings he collects.

* Shadow the Hedgehog - It is currently unknown how Shadow fits in to the game's storyline. In the official E3 trailer and screenshots, Shadow is seen driving an armed four-wheeled vehicle, suggesting his gameplay may be similar to his spin-off title, Shadow the Hedgehog. According to the game's marketing director on the E3 2006 Show floor, Shadow will be able to drive vehicles to get to new areas.

* Silver the Hedgehog - Silver is a time-traveling Hedgehog who has returned to the past in order to stop Sonic from causing a global cataclysm known as the "Iblis Trigger". Silver has psychokinetic powers that allow him to pick up objects around the playing field and throw them at enemies, including projectiles like missiles. He also possesses the ability to levitate in the air for differing amounts of time (using up his energy bar), he also gains more abilities the more rings he collects.

Non-Playable

* Dr. Eggman -The main villain in the Sonic series and (presumably) this game. He appears to be after the secret called the "Flames of Disaster". Apparently only Princess Elise knows what the secret is. His appearance has also noticeably changed from the style established in Sonic Adventure.

* Princess Elise -The Princess of Soleanna, and Eggman's kidnapping victim. Having stopped the destructive "Flames of Disaster" 10 years ago, only she knows their secrets, and their relation to the Chaos Emerald.

Unknown

* Miles "Tails" Prower - It's not known yet if he'll be playable or not, but some rumours say that he may be the fourth playable character.

* Knuckles the Echidna - The role of Knuckles the echidna in the game is also unknown, but it will probably be related to the Master Emerald or the Chaos Emeralds.

* Amy Rose - The role of Amy Rose in the game is still unknown, but she will probably be looking for Sonic, like in the previous games.

* Rouge the Bat - The role of Rouge in the game is also unknown, but it will probably be related to the Chaos Emerald. She may appear just to accompany or rival Knuckles or Shadow.

* Blaze the Cat - Not much is known about Blaze's appearance, except she is somehow connected to Silver.

* Mysterious Fourth Hedgehog - Not much is known about this character, beyond the fact he or she may be Silver's mentor in the future. This character is also said to have a crystalline appearance, similar to an emerald. It's also been suggested that he/she is similar in appearance to Shadow.

Cool Sonic Toys
Saturday, June 03, 2006
Have you noticed that Sonic toys are not really available in many stores? Well, not where we live anyways. It is soooo hard to find any place that sells or carries Sonic toys. Did you even know that there are Sonic toys available? I had no idea until searching the web. We found sonic action figures, sonic plush, money banks, key chains and more.

Sonic Action Figures:

Sonic Plush:

Sonic Keychains

Sonic Money Bank

Besides sonic toys, there are even more great sonic items out there. We have also seen sonic mini posters, socks, towels, sneakers, t-shirts, pajamas, baseball caps and much more. These items might not be available in many stores, but you can sure find them online. A great place to begin your search is ebay.com. Ebay has sooo many great sonic products available. Sonic Wildfire game for wii
Friday, June 02, 2006
SEGA's favorite blue mascot character has found his way onto the Nintendo Wii. Sonic the Hedgehog Rewrites the Arabian Nights in a completely new adventure exclusive to the Nintendo Wii Console.

Sonic's new adventure unfolds from a storybook of the classic tale, Arabian Nights. The last several pages from the book have gone missing, and it's up to Sonic to re-create the story. The title features colorful new environments filled with mosaic tiles, glistening oases, swaying palm trees and crumbling stone columns. The hedgehog triggers specific areas in the world to execute new stunts and tricks and can speed, jump, dodge and dash his way onto victory.

Screenshots of the game look great! We seriously cannot wait to get ahold of it and begin gameplay.

Screenshot:

"Sonic Wild Fire and the innovative Wii controller changes the way gamers play interactive entertainment," said Scott A. Steinberg, vice president of SEGA of America, Inc. "SEGA is excited to lead the gameplay revolution through its support of Wii with a Sonic release built exclusively for this new system."

Here's how the game utilizes the Wii controller, according to SEGA. "Hold the controller horizontally with two hands and tilt left and right to steer Sonic on different paths and maneuver deftly from obstacles and enemies. Continue to tilt and fling forward to dash-attack ground and air enemies and to break down barriers."

In addition to a single-player mode, the title boasts unique controller-enhanced mini-games that can be played with or against friends.

Sonic Wild Fire hits Wii in 2007.
